Our History

Motus Traffic Limited was formed in early 2007 from the two well known traffic equipment and installation companies of Techmiracle Limited and USCO Traffic Limited. Both of these founding companies have been traffic equipment and installation providers in the traffic control industry for over 10 years.

In 2001 Techmiracle deployed video automatic incident detection in the Clyde Tunnel in Glasgow. This was a first in a UK tunnel and became the subject of papers and presentations including a paper to the UK Road Tunnel Operators Forum. Further Highways Agency managed tunnels such as the Saltash Tunnel near Plymouth (2003) and more recently the Holmesdale Tunnel on the M25 (2007) were added with ever increasing technology advances.

In 2003 Techmiracle was the first company in the UK to introduce LED signal lamp monitoring (LCU patented) suitable for connection to generic UK traffic controllers. At the same time Techmiracle became the exclusive distributor of the now commonly used Central Light Source LED technology (Type Approved) in the UK. Early attempts by other traffic equipment manufacturers’ to achieve reliable LED signals was dogged by ‘string failures’. The Central Light Source overcame these problems and this technology went on to become an industry standard.

In early 2007 Techmiracle successfully completed a motorway multilane radar trial to prove the concept of discrete high technology traditional loop replacement. The principles from this trial are currently being evaluated, particularly the low carbon footprint and low maintenance opportunities this type of technology offers over regular loops.

USCO Traffic has been a provider of installation traffic industry services such as traditional loop cutting, civil engineering and traffic control turn-key signalisation including controller configuration. USCO had built up a reputation for quality (ISO 9001) and service with many local authorities throughout England. The successful operation of the area 10 maintenance contract followed by the award of the Bedfordshire Highways maintenance contract in 2006, through Amey, are further clear examples of the USCO history of providing traffic industry support services.

USCO has trained several loop cutting teams to provide ‘A’ road, ‘B’ road and motorway cutting services. Full chapter 8 approval and traffic management equipped vehicles and crews allow customers the opportunity to get all services performed from one contractor.

The natural alliance of the two businesses was officially brought together when Motus Traffic merged the trading interests of the businesses in April 2007. The directors and management of the newly formed company retained in depth the skills of the original companies. In the formation of Motus Traffic a strong financial and technological base has been created which will benefit existing customers and new customers alike.
